In the world of fine wine, few names carry as much prestige as Bordeaux’s First Growths — Premiers Crus Classés.
The story began with the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, created at the request of Napoleon III for the Paris Universal Exhibition. Bordeaux wine brokers were asked to rank the region’s finest estates primarily according to their reputation and market value at the time. The classification established five levels for red wines, with Premier Cru, or First Growth, representing the highest rank.
Today, only five estates hold this legendary status:

Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the most recognized names in fine wine.

Château Haut-Brion
Bordeaux’s Historic Exception
Château Haut-Brion occupies a unique place in the 1855 Classification.
While the classified red estates were overwhelmingly located in the Médoc, Haut-Brion was the sole red estate from the Graves included in the ranking. Today, the estate lies within Pessac-Léognan.
Its wines are admired for their distinctive aromatic depth and complex savory character, often combining ripe fruit with smoky, earthy, and mineral nuances.
Haut-Brion is not simply one of Bordeaux’s greatest wines; it is also one of its most historically significant estates.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild has always possessed a distinctive identity within Pauillac.
