Brand story
Outpost Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
The Estate Cabernet is Outpost's core statement, drawn from the property's best blocks between 1,800 and 2,200 feet on Howell Mountain. It comes from the same history — a site farmed since the mid-1800s, a winery founded in 1998, and ownership since by AXA Millésimes — and the same working method: block-by-block fermentation, rigorous lot selection, and bottling without fining or filtration so the vintage speaks for itself.
Elevation is the point. Above the fog line, with cool breezes and thin volcanic soils, the fruit ripens slowly and retains its tension. The 2019 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 19 months in 80% new French oak, with 2,345 cases produced. It shows a deep purple-black colour and opens on crushed black cherry, wild blueberry and fresh blackcurrant, with tar, wet slate, loam and black truffle underneath; medium to full-bodied and charged with energy, it carries layers of dark fruit on a firm, grainy frame and finishes long and mineral-laced. A classic mountain Cabernet — structured, integrated and unmistakably of its altitude.
