Brand story

Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs

Louis Roederer has been in family hands since 1833, when Louis Roederer himself broke with the practice of his day and began buying vineyards rather than grapes — a conviction that great wine begins in the soil. Seven generations later the House remains independent, farming 250 hectares across 400-plus parcels in the Grands and Premiers Crus of the Marne, worked plot by plot and increasingly by biodynamic principles. The Blanc de Blancs is drawn from the heart of that estate: hillside plots in Avize, on the “La Côte” holding in the Côte des Blancs

A pure Chardonnay from a single year, the cuvée matures around five years on its lees and rests a minimum of six months after disgorgement. The deep chalk of Avize gives the wine its signature — a saline freshness and a straight, luminous line, with a caressing, powdery texture in which minerality is woven into the substance rather than laid over it. Cellar Master Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon describes the 2017 as a magnificent reading of Avize: concentrated yet delicate, deliciously saline, complex. It is Chardonnay at its most vertical, and unmistakably Roederer in its vinous, understated style.

Testing notes

Blanc de Blancs 2017 is linear and chalk-driven, with lemon pith, white blossom, and a fine, persistent finish of great purity.
