Brand story

Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé

Cristal Rosé is the House’s most exacting expression of chalk. At the turn of the millennium, recognising the early effects of climate change, Louis Roederer began a quiet revolution in the vineyard: in 1998 the plot known as “La Villers”, high on the Aÿ hillside, was left fallow and then replanted with young vines from massal selection. That replanting began a continuous redefinition of the parcels destined for Cristal Rosé, and today each vintage reveals another facet of the site.

The wine is made by gentle infusion, the technique used since the cuvée’s creation and refined for more than two decades by Cellar Master Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, who separates infusion from fermentation with ever greater precision — an approach inspired by Japanese tea masters and their art of drawing out cleaner, brighter flavour. The result is a rosé of unique energy, powdery texture and ultimate finesse. The 2014 shows trim, ripe fruit and a delicious texture, with what Lécaillon describes as almost electric delicacy: remarkable precision carrying great intensity of flavour.

Testing notes

Cristal Rosé 2014 combines delicacy and grip, with wild raspberry, blood orange, and a creamy, saline finish of remarkable length.
