Riesling Rheingau Tradition

Brand story

Robert Weil Riesling Tradition 2024

The story is the same estate and the same hill: Kiedrich, the Kiedricher Berg, and a house founded in 1875 by Dr. Robert Weil that has been in the family for four generations. What distinguishes Robert Weil is a refusal to compromise on method — 90 hectares of Riesling and nothing else, certified organic farming, vines up to fifty years old planted at 5,000–6,000 per hectare, gentle handling from vibrating trailers to gravity conveyance and natural sedimentation, and an unbroken run of harvesting every quality level from estate wine to Trockenbeerenauslese every single year since 1989.

Tradition is the most historically minded wine in the range. Its style looks back to the Rieslings of more than a century ago, which were not fermented fully dry but kept a gently tart character — here expressed as a subtle off-dry tension held by fine, present acidity, charming and animating rather than sweet, and an especially good partner for spicy food. The 2024 growing season was a generous one for nature: high rainfall restored water reserves after several dry years, and the phyllite of the Kiedricher Berg together with the Taunus winds allowed long hanging times and complex, intense fruit. A wine that carries the Rheingau's own past in its shape.

Testing notes

Robert Weil Riesling Tradition is bright and gently off-dry, with apple, apricot, and honeysuckle over a crisp, refreshing finish.
